Training

Microtec (Air) Ltd offer a range of training courses to suit the needs of a variety of industries. We offer standard asbestos training courses and we can also compile bespoke courses if our standard courses do not meet your requirements.

Microtec TrainingAll training courses meet the minimum requirements of current legislation and HSE guidance and are carried out by fully competent trainers and assessors.

Below is listed a brief description of our basic training courses available. For a more detailed description of individual courses please refer to the individual course description sheets or contact Microtec (Air) Ltd for more details.

  • Asbestos Awareness: To increase the level of awareness to those that can either potentially be exposed to asbestos containing materials during the course of their daily working activities or those who generally need to improve their knowledge of asbestos.
  • Asbestos Removal Operative & Supervisor Inductions: To ensure that employees are equipped with the relevant skills and knowledge to enable them to carry out, or to supervise, asbestos removal safely by minimising exposure to asbestos. The course involves theory, practical training and assessments.
  • Asbestos Refresher Training: To identify good and bad practice and to ensure that the good practice is shared and bad practice is stopped. Training Needs Analysis (TNA) is carried out to ensure that refresher training meets the required needs.
  • Asbestos Management: For Managers, Directors and Supervisory Licence Holders with the necessary skills and knowledge to manage and/or supervise asbestos remediation and removal work. Also for those responsible for maintenance and repairs in non-domestic premises are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to manage the risks from identified and/or presumed ACM’s.

We also offer the full range of BOHS asbestos proficiency modules and the asbestos occupational hygiene module S301.

BOHS Courses

  • P401 – Identification of Asbestos in Bulk Samples (PLM): Provides theoretical and practical knowledge in the techniques of Asbestos sample identification using polarised light microscopy (PLM).
  • P402 – Building Surveys & Bulk Sampling for Asbestos: Provides background and practical knowledge in the surveying of buildings for asbestos and to provide general guidance on management procedures necessary to minimise exposure to any identified asbestos.
  • P403 – Asbestos Fibre Counting (PCM): Provides theoretical and practical knowledge in the techniques of fibre counting of asbestos air samples using phase contrast microscopy (PCM).
  • P404 – Air Sampling and Clearance Testing of Asbestos: Provides theoretical and practical knowledge in the techniques of air sampling and clearance testing of Asbestos.
  • P405 – Management of Asbestos in Buildings (Safe Removal & Disposal): Provides the candidate with the practical knowledge and skills to be able to manage asbestos in buildings and give a knowledge base to audit asbestos removal projects.
  • P406 – Supervision and Management of the Safe Removal and Disposal of Asbestos: Provides the training needs for supervisory licence holders as specified in Chapter 4 of the ‘Licensed work with asbestos insulation, asbestos coatings and asbestos insulating board (HSG247)
  • S301 – Asbestos and Other Fibres: Enhances the student’s knowledge of occupational hygiene practice in relation to fibrous dusts. The module concentrates on asbestos, but other fibres, eg. MMMF, ARAMIDS, etc., which are increasingly finding uses in industry are also covered.
